Function / Content

This series consists of registers of mineral leases in the Daly River region. The entries were recorded in the following columns; number, total number of shares, locality, area, application, lease, name of lease, registered lessees, transfers, exemptions, rent, survey fee, and paid on. There are entries for lease nos ML2K-ML68K. The Mining Registrar, Darwin, maintained registers for Darwin district (including Daly River) and the Mines Branch, Head Office relating to mining tenements and leases. The Mines Branch, Head Office, was moved to Alice Springs during the Second World War and remained there during the period 1942-1953. A Darwin office of the Mines Branch operated during 1946-1953 and was then merged with the Mines Branch, Head Office, in 1953 when it was moved back from Alice Springs to Darwin.
